October 2012, the Kyiv Heart Center, Ukraine for the first time performed successful connection procedure, the so-called “artificial lung” or ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) for 5 months old child.

The uniqueness of this case is in the very fact that this is the first positive experience with “artificial lung” for a patient of this age in Ukraine. So far the Kiev Heart Center performed more than 30 ECMO for adult patients and this is the first time to a child as a patient for this procedure.
