Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation on 84-Year-Old Patient

13-07-2018

Recently, at the Heart Institute, a transfemoral (implantation) implantation of the last-generation prosthesis of the aortic valve was conducted on an 84-year-old woman having been diagnosed with critical aortic stenosis with apparent calcification of the openings of the aortic valve. The procedure was fulfilled by the team of doctors (Andrew Maksakov, Maxim Shimanko, Konstantin Boyko, Mykola Stan, Natalia Ponich-Gorobievsky, Yana Antonyuk, Maria Slyubik) headed by Andriy Hohlov, head of the Department of Endovascular Surgery and Angiography.

The severe defeat of the ascending aorta by calcinosis and a number of concomitant diseases combined resulted in risk the traditional operation to be extremely large. Endovascular implantation of the aortic valve was the only opportunity to save the patient’s life.
A few days ago the patient visited the Heart Institute for a control examination – the results are remarkably well.
