On October 15, 2026, the 12th Annual Scientific and Educational Conference “Current Issues in Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery” was held at the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The event was organized with the participation of the Departments of Functional Diagnostics, Cardiothoracic Surgery and Transplantation, and Interventional and Extracorporeal Medicine of the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine.
The conference aimed to familiarize physicians from various specialties with innovations in the diagnosis and management of renal dysfunction in patients with cardiovascular diseases, as well as with the 2026 European recommendations on cardiorenal interactions. The event was conducted in a hybrid format and was accredited as a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activity for physicians of different specialties.
The conference was opened by Academician of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine, Professor Borys Todurov, General Director of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. In his presentation, he highlighted the Institute’s achievements in the field of heart and lung transplantation.
The scientific program covered a wide range of topics, including the integration of surgical interventions with kidney transplantation and renal replacement therapy (M. Zahriichuk, V. Demianchuk), aortic valve neocuspidization (I. Mokryk), the selection of antihypertensive therapy for patients with kidney disease (M. Hassanzadeh, A. Solonovych, H. Prykashchykova), the management of dyslipidemia (O. Yepachintseva), and the diagnosis and treatment of acute kidney injury (I. Kuzmych, Yu. Balandiuk).
Cardiorenal interactions from both the cardiologist’s and nephrologist’s perspectives were discussed during a roundtable session featuring Professors Oleh Zharinov and Stella Kushnirenko, heads of departments at the Shupyk National Healthcare University of Ukraine.
A distinctive feature of this annual conference was its unified thematic focus. The event reflected the implementation of priority areas in cardiology, interventional cardiology, and cardiac surgery into the clinical and scientific practice of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine.
A recording of the conference will remain available for viewing on YouTube for one month following the event.
