A historic event for Ukrainian medicine and transplantology – the first heart-lung transplant was performed.
A complex and lengthy operation, lasting about 10 hours, took place in Lviv in cooperation with the teams of the Heart Institute and Lviv colleagues of the Saint Panteleimon Hospital, the First Medical Association of Lviv, and gave a chance for a new life to 38-year-old Nina from the Kyiv region, who has been ill since birth and today finally got a chance to breathe fully.
Ahead is an important stage of rehabilitation.
Infinite gratitude to the family of the donor, an 18-year-old boy who tragically died in a road accident. You helped save four lives, including the life of a child. A worthy decision that made it possible to give life to hopelessly ill people.
We express our gratitude for the support and development of transplantation in Ukraine to Minister of Health of Ukraine Viktor Lyashko, Vasyl Strilka, and the entire team of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, the Ukrainian Transplant Coordination Center, Dmytro Koval, and People’s Deputy of Ukraine Oksana Dmytrieva.
