The idea of creating the first Department of Anesthesiology in Ukraine and its implementation belongs to the outstanding cardiac surgeon Professor Mykola Amosov. On October 25, 1957, for the first time in Ukraine, M. Amosov organized the first two-month cycle of specialization in anesthesiology. 29 doctors, mostly surgeons, from all regions of Ukraine were enrolled in the cycle.

At the end of the cycle, students were issued certificates stating that they “were on the cycle of advanced training in anesthesiology at Kyiv Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians”.

On December 22 1957 by order of Kyiv Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians a young, 34-year-old graduate of the clinical residency of the Research Institute of Neurosurgery Anatolii Trishchynskyi, PhD was appointed to the position of assistant of the Department of anesthesiology at a full pedagogical and medical rate. Mykola Amosov personally invited A. Trishchynskyi for this position. Trishchynskyi headed the department until 1996. Professor Igor Shlapak, the best student of A. Trishchynskyi, was the head of the department from 1996 to 2015, continued and multiplied the glorious traditions of the Department.

In 2016, the department was headed by professor Oleg Loskutov, MD, PhD, Full Professor.

Научная деятельность

Научная работа кафедры посвящена актуальным проблемам анестезиологии, интенсивной терапии и клинической токсикологии.

Утверждена тема НИР: «Разработка инновационных техник анестезии и интенсивной терапии» (промежуточные результаты: улучшение качества анестезиологического обеспечения, защиты миокарда и искусственного кровообращения во время хирургического лечения ИБС у пациентов пожилого и старческого возраста). УДК: 617-089.5.001.76:616-039.72.001.5-08. (руководитель НИР, заведующий кафедрой профессор О. А. Лоскутов).

На кафедре проводится подготовка научных кадров в очной аспирантуре, магистратуре.

 

Scientific activity

The scientific work of the department is devoted to topical issues of anesthesiology, intensive care and clinical toxicology.

The approved research topic is “Development of Innovative Techniques of Anesthesia and Intensive Care” (first results were improving the quality of anesthetic support, protection of the myocardium, and artificial blood circulation during surgical treatment of CAD in the elderly and senile patients). UDC: 617-089.5.001.76:616-039.72.001.5-08. (the head of research is Professor O. Loskutov, Head of the Department).

The department trains scientific staff in PhD and master’s programs.

 

Clinical work

Teachers of the department constantly perform clinical work. They consult patients in the basic departments of clinical hospitals in Kyiv and other cities of Ukraine, carry out air medical service at the national and regional levels.

The department has clinical bases in the Departments of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care in 9 leading hospitals in Kyiv and Kyiv region.

International cooperation

Every year, the Department of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care holds two scientific and practical conferences with international participation. These are the “British-Ukrainian Symposium”, which was held for the tenth time in 2018, and the “Youth Anesthesiology Conference” (“Molodizhna Anestesiologichna Konferencia”). In addition to the best speakers from Ukraine, scientists from all over the world come to these forums every year to share their experience with Ukrainian doctors.

Also, several times a year, together with the best European specialists, the department conducts master classes on topical issues of Anesthesiology and Intensive Care.

As part of the extended education strategy, all teachers of the department improve their professional level through training abroad and attending international Congresses, Conferences, and symposia in EU countries.
