The subjects of the plenary session included consideration of aspects of the diagnosis of aortic heart diseases and the use of modern cardiac surgical techniques, such as Ozaki’s operation, decalcification and transcatheter implantation of the aortic valve.

During the internship it was possible to take a part in the medical process, as well as assisting during the surgical interventions conducted by the chief of the clinic – prof. Benetis. During the surgeries the professor shared some surgical techniques including the author’s one. In addition, it was possible to take a part in super complicated interventions in the ascending aorta and reconstructive interventions on the mitral valve.

The best 45 medical students and interns (the best three students/interns from each university) from different regions of Ukraine underwent a week internship at the Heart Institute. The test system was developed by the specialists of the Heart Institute

Director of the Heart Institute Borys Todurov recently returned from Kherson, where he has held a series of meetings with the leaders and medical workers of the region.
Within the framework of the trip, the patients of the region with congenital and acquired heart diseases were examined by specialists from the Heart Institute – cardiologists, cardiac surgeons (adults and children) and specialists in ultrasound diagnostics.

A team of doctors led by Director of the Heart Institute Borys Todurov carried out a volunteer trip to the Donbass (Marinka, Krasnogorovka), during which civilians and military men were examined.

In Kiev, at the Heart Institute a workshop with the participation of Poland’s leading heart surgeon Roman Pshibylskiy was held.
The master class was held in the framework of cooperation between the Silesian Center for Heart Disease and the Heart Institute.

At the Herat Institute CEO of Heart Institute cardiac surgeon Boris Todurov and director of Kaunas University Hospital cardiac surgeon Rimantas Benetis with the team of specialists of Heart Institute conducted a unique operation – 38-year-old patient with a fatal diagnosis “aortic aneurysm” replaced the largest vessel and made the aortic reconstruction of valve.

Full working week spent in operating rooms together with leading American surgeons Professor Joseph Bavaria, Dr. Benjamin Jackson, Michael Acker, Hristianom Bermudez and others has been an interesting and rewarding experience exploring the high-tech surgical interventions on the heart, great vessels and lungs. The visit can be regarded as construction of the foundation for further cooperation between experts on both sides of the ocean for the benefit of the people.

The second session was devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of heart failure. Professor Yuri Ivanov paid attention on the features of diagnostics of congenital heart disease in adults, professor Oleg Zharinov – Indications for myocardial revascularization in patients with heart failure, professor L. Voronkov (Institute of Cardiology Strazhesko of Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine.) – The basic provisions of European recommendations for the treatment of heart failure in 2016.
During the seminar a meeting of heads of specialized departments was held.
