A boy from the Rivne region was born on 27th week of pregnancy with a weight of 870 g with two heart defects – coarctation of the aorta, hypoplasia of the aortic arc and with open Botallo’s duct. During the month, Rivne doctors took care about child and then took him to the Heart Institute. Upon just 2.5 hours after the child’s arrival to the clinic, he was successfully operated by a team of doctors headed by cardiac surgeon Vasyl Karpenko and anesthetist Iryna Galamay.

30 best students of senior courses and interns from 15 medical universities of Ukraine were trained at the Heart Institute. This is a joint project of the Heart Institute with UAMED (NGO “Ukrainian Association of Specialists in the Development of Medical Education”), which is held for the third year in a row. Participants of internships took part in operations and got experience of practical work in different departments of the clinic.

The patient, 75 years old, had a complex combined lesion of the aortic valve (a combined aortic defect with a predominance of  stenosis), a marked loss of ascending aortic calcinosis and a number of concomitant diseases, which combined risk the traditional operation to be extremely high. Endovascular implantation of the aortic valve was the only opportunity to save his life.

The Heart Institute hosted the First All-Ukrainian Conference – “Innovative surgery”, dedicated to the latest methods of treatment in surgery, which are successfully used in Ukraine.
About 500 participants worked in an atmosphere of intense, interesting and exciting communication with successful surgeons of our country.

The purpose of the conference was to familiarize practitioners with modern capabilities of functional diagnostic methods, discuss the state of preparation of methodological and regulatory documents. The conference was attended by 238 doctors from all over Ukraine, including the main specialists in functional diagnostics of the regions of Ukraine.

The annual seminar always draws so much attention of practical doctors, given the rapid evolution of approaches to diagnosis and treatment of acute coronary syndromes.
