Sviatoslav Nimchuk at the Examination After Heart Transplant

18-05-2021

On May 18, 2021, Sviatoslav Nimchuk from Kyiv who had a heart transplant a little over a year ago visited the Heart Institute for another examination.
Cardiologist of the Organ Transplant Department Anna Melnyk and Head of the Department Gavrylo Kovtun testified that the heart works well while the patient himself talks about his excellent health and quality of life.

Sviatoslav, who is 60 years old, used to be an ambulance driver. He suffered two heart attacks, after which a giant aneurysm of the left ventricle was formed. The heart was critically affected, and only a transplant could save him. He was the second patient to have a heart transplant after a 15-year break in Ukraine.

The transplant operation was successfully performed on February 4, 2020, by a team of doctors of the Heart Institute led by the Director of the Institute Professor Borys Todurov, and their colleagues from Kovel in the District Hospital of the city of Kovel (Oleg Samchuk was a head doctor at the time)

Such happy stories once again demonstrate that experience and innovation save lives. What once seemed impossible is now a reality!
