A boy from the Rivne region was born on 27th week of pregnancy with a weight of 870 g with two heart defects – coarctation of the aorta, hypoplasia of the aortic arc and with open Botallo’s duct. During the month, Rivne doctors took care about child and then took him to the Heart Institute. Upon just 2.5 hours after the child’s arrival to the clinic, he was successfully operated by a team of doctors headed by cardiac surgeon Vasyl Karpenko and anesthetist Iryna Galamay.
Borys Todurov thanked his colleagues – Rivne obstetricians-gynecologists, pediatricians who successfully took birth, cared of the baby, and delivered him to the Heart Institute for correction of the defect, and emphasized:
“Until recently, such a small weight (up to 1 kg) was considered almost a sentence, and children with such weight haven’t been operated for congenital heart disease. To date, the low weight is no more a contraindication for the elimination of congenital heart disease. Moreover, according to our experience, such children do not have a neurological deficiency and grow healthy in the future, they get socially and physically adapted “.
