Gavril Kovtun

Department of the heart muscle disease and transplantation of the human organs and tissues is considered to be one of the most important curative and diagnostic units of the Heart Institute.

In the broad definition, myocardial pathology is determined as a change of the biochemical structure of the heart muscle that accompanies any heart muscle disease: ischemic heart disease, myocarditis, acquired heart disease, cardiomyopathies, arterial hypertension etc. It can not be determined as a particular diagnosis, but we have to consider, that any disease of the heart muscle is followed by dysmetabolic disorders in whole organism.

The department is equipped by modern diagnostic facilities of the expert-class that fulfill the requirements of the international standards.

The department is staffed by efficient specialists, who underwent postgraduate education and residency training in cardiac surgery in the leading European countries. Cardiac surgeons and cardiologists always participate in the international conferences and congresses that give an opportunity to implement modern medical achievements in the clinical practice, constantly improving the approach to the patient’s treatment.

The main work streams of the department

Diagnostics, medical therapy and surgical treatment of the patients with heart failure, caused by:

I Cardiomyopathies (CMP):

– CMP inducted by myocarditis ()
– CPM inducted by stress (“Tako-Tsubo”)
– Peripartum (posrpartum) CMP
– CMP inducted by tachycardia

c) Mixed
