For the past two weeks, the doctors of the Heart Institute have been training in one of the best clinics of Germany in Hamburg. Acquaintance with colleagues, exchange of knowledge and experience, study of the latest techniques in cardiac surgery and cardiology, and even heart and lung transplantation on one of the internship days – all this is growth, acquisition of experience and knowledge that doctors will implement at home, in Ukraine, saving life of Ukrainians.

Tonight, Prof. Borys Todurov performed a heart transplant in Zhytomyr. A very young girl with a rare fourth blood type received a new heart. We thank the team of doctors of the Heart Institute and the Zhytomyr Regional Hospital.

A team of doctors lead by leading surgeon Mikhailo Zagriichuk, Head of the Kidney Transplantation and Hemodialysis Department at the Heart Institute recently performed an extremely complex high-tech surgical intervention – performed one of the most difficult operations in surgery – pancreaticoduodenal resection (PDR or Whipple’s operation).

In Europe, cardiac surgery is rapidly developing towards valve-sparing reconstructive operations. Specialists of the Heart Institute under the leadership of Prof. Borys Todurov have the most experience in valve-sparing operations of the aortic valve. Our colleagues returned home with invaluable experience for saving Ukrainian patients and raising the status of our doctors internationally.

Maksym Zaretskyi, arrhythmologist surgeon at the Heart Institute, recently held a master class on the implantation of a three-chamber CRT-P pacemaker for his colleagues on the basis of St. Martin’s Hospital in Mukachevo, Transcarpathian Region. An implantation of a three-chamber cardioverter-defibrillator CRT-D was also performed.

In Europe, the trend of cardiac surgery is rapidly developing towards minimal invasiveness. It is nice to realize that this trend is supported by the same quality in Ukraine. Our colleagues returned home with invaluable experience for saving Ukrainian patients and raising the status of our doctors in the international arena.
