29-11-2024

On November 28-29, 2024, a multidisciplinary full-time thematic school on atherosclerosis and ischemic heart disease was held at the Heart Institute. The initiators of this educational project were the specialists of the Institute and the departments of the Shupyk National Institute of Health Care of Ukraine located at the Institute’s clinical base. The head of the school is the General Director of the Heart Institute Prof. Borys Todurov. The event was attended by 9 cardiologists from different regions of Ukraine. The school was organized thanks to a targeted grant provided by the pharmaceutical company Novartis.

After the opening speech of Prof. Borys Todurov, the students got acquainted with the work of the Department of Endovascular Surgery and Angiography, and took part in a clinical tour of the Intensive Care Unit. Within the framework of the school, the heads of departments of the Heart Institute and specialists of the University departments prepared a diverse lecture program and demonstrated many clinical examples. The latest aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of chronic coronary artery disease from the standpoint of the 2024 European guidelines (Prof. Oleg Zharinov), the combination of coronary artery disease and heart failure (D. Ryabenko), secondary mitral valve insufficiency (N. Ponich), diagnostics of arterial lesions (I. Shkurat), instrumental diagnostics (O. Onyshchenko), ECG evaluation (V. Kuts), correction of risk factors and prevention of coronary artery disease (L. Tkachenko), endovascular interventions in acute coronary syndromes (A. Khokhlov), intensive care of postoperative patients (I. Kuzmich), modern cardiosurgical approaches (G. Kovtun), prevention of life-threatening arrhythmias (O. Hrytsai), etc. were deeply considered. Of particular interest was the report of the invited lecturer, Prof. Vera Tseluyko (Karazin Kharkiv National University), in which the mechanisms of atherosclerotic lesions formation and the latest approaches to the correction of dyslipidemia were examined in detail. The audience received comprehensive answers from each speaker to numerous questions.

The successful experience of conducting the thematic school will be used in the introduction of new formats of events for the continuous professional development of doctors in functional diagnostics, cardiology, and cardiac surgery.
