Among the participants was Stepan Maruniak, MD, PhD, an anesthesiologist from the Department of Extracorporeal Treatment Methods. After attending the symposium virtually for the past three years, he participated in person this year and delivered a presentation entitled “ECMO with Limited Resources: An International Perspective.” The lecture highlighted the implementation and management of ECMO programs in resource-constrained healthcare settings.
The scientific program covered a wide range of topics, including the management of cardiogenic shock, selection and application of mechanical circulatory support devices and ECMO systems, troubleshooting strategies, goal-directed perfusion, organ protection, and the latest preservation techniques. The symposium combined expert lectures, case-based discussions, and hands-on training sessions.
Participation in the conference provided an opportunity to share international experience in ECMO delivery under limited-resource conditions and to engage in professional discussions on contemporary approaches to perfusion and mechanical circulatory support.
