Ukrainian surgeons save lives under Russian bombardment | 7NEWS

Ukrainian heart transplant surgeons from Kyiv are visiting Melbourne’s Alfred Hospital on a study and awareness tour, sharing their experiences of performing 63 heart transplants in 2025 during Russian rocket attacks, electricity blackouts and bombing raids.

Professor Borys Todurov and Dr Sofiia Chaikovska, along with their colleagues, continue to operate in dark and freezing conditions, risking their lives to save patients including children. The Melbourne Ukrainian community donated a portable ultrasound machine to the surgical team, who are learning new techniques while Australian doctors gain inspiration from their dedication.
