Pacemaker implantation with physiological pacing in an 8‑year‑old boy

12-08-2026

Mark, an eight‑year‑old boy, began his journey with what seemed like a simple fever that persisted for five days. When his parents sought medical advice, an electrocardiogram revealed bradycardia: his heart was beating only 50 times per minute instead of the normal 80–90 for a child his age.

Holter monitoring confirmed the diagnosis — acquired high‑grade atrioventricular block — and Mark was referred to the Heart Institute.

Cardiac surgeon‑arrhythmologist and cardiologist‑electrophysiologist, Associate Professor Serhiy Prorok, together with the Heart Institute team, performed implantation of a pacemaker with physiological pacing. This is a rare procedure in Ukraine, with only a few similar cases reported. Its advantage lies in the fact that the device works in a way that closely mimics the natural rhythm of the heart, helping to prevent complications in the future.

Операція пройшла успішно. Тепер серце Марка б’ється так, як і повинно.
