Thursday and Friday this week at the Heart Institute turned out to be very fruitful – two heart transplants were successfully performed by Gavrylo Kovtun and a team of doctors of the Heart Institute. Two women received new hearts – a 53-year-old patient from Kyiv and a 48-year-old patient from Zaporizhzhia.

On Saturday, our team performed transplantation of hearts and kidneys in Lutsk – in the organ transplantation department of the Volyn Regional Clinical Hospital together with colleagues of this institution.

A 32-year-old patient from Kyiv received the heart. A trip from Kyiv to Lutsk was needed because the donor was in Lutsk, and it was not possible to deliver the donor’s heart from there to Kyiv. Therefore, our team together with our patient headed to Lutsk where the transplantation was carried out that night.

At the Heart Institute, a kidney was transplanted from a mother to her daughter. As of today, the two of them have already been transferred from the intensive care unit and are in the department in the ward.
