The transplantation team of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine proudly represented Ukraine at EACTS 2026, one of Europe’s most prestigious congresses for cardiovascular surgeons, held on October 7-10 in Barcelona, Spain.
A landmark event for Ukrainian medicine was the presentation delivered by the Institute’s Director, Professor Borys Todurov, during the Techno-College session, one of the congress’s flagship scientific forums. He shared the Heart Institute’s unique experience of transporting a donor heart by drone during full-scale war.
The presentation attracted significant interest from the international medical community and demonstrated how Ukrainian physicians continue to develop innovative lifesaving solutions despite the extraordinary challenges of wartime conditions.
In addition, the Heart Institute team presented three more reports highlighting the outcomes and advancements of heart transplantation in Ukraine.
Serhii Sudakevych delivered an oral presentation on the use of extracorporeal technologies in the treatment of wounded patients on the frontline. Sofiia Chaikovska presented a poster on the use of normothermic ex vivo perfusion for donor heart preservation and transportation. Borys Todurov also presented a poster focused on donor heart transportation during wartime.
Participation in leading international congresses is not only an opportunity to share scientific achievements but also a platform to tell the world the truth about Ukraine, the challenges faced by Ukrainian healthcare professionals during the war, and the resilience, professionalism, and dedication that define our medical community.
