A Ukrainian soldier was evacuated from the frontline to the Heart Institute with a massive fragment lodged beneath his heart.
Professor Borys Todurov and his team performed a highly complex surgery using artificial circulation, which helped prevent massive blood loss and saved the warrior’s life. The situation was critically dangerous — a sharp 7‑centimeter piece of artillery shrapnel had stopped just a millimeter away from the heart. “Born in an armored vyshyvanka,” says the soldier, Oleksandr.
We express our gratitude to the military medics for their rapid evacuation and professional stabilization of the patient’s condition.
Together, we hold the medical frontline.
