On November 21, 2020, the sixth heart transplant in Ukraine in 11 months took place in Lviv. The transplant was performed by prof. Borys Todurov with a team of doctors of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine together with Lviv colleagues led by Oleh Samchuk, Clinical Hospital of Emergency Medicine of Lviv.
Borys Todurov: “Friday evening. At 4 pm I was still in Mariupol, and at 8 pm I was already doing a heart transplant in Lviv. Dozens of people took part in the fate of the 36-year-old recipient. Doctors, nurses, laboratory technicians, military helicopter pilots, civilian pilots, police officers, deputy ministers, and unit commanders… ”
3 lives were saved – a heart and two kidneys transplanted!
Donor,a young man, 28 years old had a stroke, unfortunately, he could not be saved. His relatives – mother, sister, and wife pregnant with their first child – agreed to donate. It was unspeakable sadness and pain, but the heart of the dearest person will continue to beat – so they decided.
The heart was given to a 36-year-old father of two girls (a resident of Kostiantynivka, Donetsk region), the kidneys were transplanted to residents of Lviv and Kyiv.
