On November 29, 2023, the Heart Institute and the Shupyk National Health Care University conducted a 4-hour intramural professional school “Ischemic heart disease: diagnosis, treatment, prevention” for 40 cardiologists and therapists from Kyiv and the region. The main goal of the event was to discuss controversial aspects of the management of patients with coronary heart disease, in particular, determining indications for coronary angiography and revascularization interventions. The seminar was registered by the Testing Center at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine as an event for the continuous professional development of doctors.

In his report, the head of the Department of Functional Diagnostics, Prof. Oleg Zharinov, highlighted the complex aspects of diagnosis, the role of revascularization, and basic medical treatment in patients with stable coronary heart disease from the perspective of the 2023 guidelines of American experts. Head of the Department of Endovascular Surgery and Angiography of the Heart Institute, assistant of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, X-ray Endovascular and Extracorporeal technologies, Doctor of Medicine Andrii Khokhlov detailed the aspects of choosing the optimal method of revascularization. Liliya Tkachenko, associate professor of the Department of Functional Diagnostics, using clinical examples, showed algorithms for choosing tactics for managing patients with coronary artery disease and determining the need for coronary angiography. The school was also attended by invited lecturers Prof. Serhii Fedorov (Ivano-Frankivsk National Medical University) and Doctor of Medicine Yaroslav Lutai (Strazhesko Institute of Cardiology, Clinical and Regenerative Medicine of the National Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine), who spoke about the new European recommendations for the diagnosis and treatment of acute coronary syndromes and approaches to the primary prevention of ischemic heart disease.
