The Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine has once again made the impossible possible! This time, in the department of congenital heart disease, our team restored the joy of childhood and good health to 4-year-old Sofia.
The young patient was diagnosed with a complex condition—supravalvular aortic stenosis, a severe narrowing of the vessel extending from the valve leaflets to the entire ascending aorta. Traditionally, this pathology requires a Brom procedure, which is typically performed through a sternotomy.
However, our surgeons chose a different path! For the first time, this complex reconstruction was performed using a lateral minimally invasive approach—a technique not even described in the global literature for correcting such defects.
The result – Little Sofia went home on the seventh day after surgery, happy and with a healthy heart!
This remarkable achievement is thanks to our team: Professor Oleksandr Romanyuk, Dmytro Kryvolap, anesthesiologist Yevhen Oleynikov, head of intensive care Ruslana Kireychikova, and cardiologists Olga Shpora and Olena Dudko.
