The Texas Heart Institute is one of the leading cardiovascular centers in the United States. Founded in 1962 in Houston by the outstanding cardiac surgeon Dr. Denton Cooley it is the flagship of global cardiac surgery.
Under the institute’s auspices, on June 2-3, 2023, a conference dedicated to current perfusion issues was held in a hybrid format (Perfusion Conference 2023).
The conference featured experts in the fields of cardiac surgery, anesthesiology, intensive care, and extracorporeal technologies who discussed contemporary best practices in the care of cardiac surgery patients.
The essence of the conference was to provide specialists caring for patients with heart diseases with knowledge and experience regarding the latest advances in surgical art and perfusion techniques.
Senior Research Associate, Ph.D., perfusionist of the Heart Institute, Stepan Marunyak, reported on the Heart Institute’s experience in solving complex situations during the application of extracorporeal techniques with an emphasis on the removal of foreign bodies from the heart in combat trauma with the use of a pump oxygenator and also analyzed the impact of Russian military aggression on the work of perfusionists, in particular, and our clinic in general.
Conference delegates were impressed that despite wartime hardships, we continue to provide the best high-quality care for our patients.
