Online Webinar on Modern Aspects of Thrombosis and Embolism Prevention

01-07-2021

On July 1, 2021, an online webinar “Modern aspects of thrombosis and embolism prevention” took place on the basis of the Heart Institute. This event was organized with the active participation of the departments of functional diagnostics and cardiac surgery, X-ray endovascular, and extracorporeal technologies of the National University of Healthcare of Ukraine named after P. Shupik. The purpose of the three-hour multidisciplinary webinar was to acquaint physicians of various specialties with changes in approaches to the stratification of the risk of thromboembolic complications and antithrombotic therapy in patients with cardiovascular disease. In addition to the staff of the departments of the University, the participants of the webinar were students of many cycles of thematic improvement and specialization, conducted at the end of the academic year.

The audience was particularly interested in the generalization of the experience of heart transplantation and mechanical heart implantation in patients with severe heart failure. This topic was covered by the head of the Department of Myocardial Diseases, Organ and Tissue Transplantation of the Heart Institute Havrylo Kovtun. The latest aspects of prevention and treatment of venous thrombosis and thromboembolism, including in patients with coronavirus infection, were presented in the report of Associate Professor L. Tkachenko.

Webinar moderator, Head of the Department of Functional Diagnostics Professor Oleg Zharinov and neurologist of the Heart Institute V. Babenko discussed controversial aspects of antithrombotic therapy in patients with asymptomatic atrial fibrillation, as well as approaches to ECG monitoring in non-stroke patients. Particular attention in the discussion was paid to the current possibilities of thrombextraction in patients with ischemic strokes. Assistant of the Department of Functional Diagnostics N. Lifantieva on a clinical case revealed the features of the management of patients with acute coronary syndrome complicated by atrial fibrillation.

Thematic webinars, which are regularly held by the Heart Institute together with the departments of the National University of Healthcare of Ukraine named after P. Shupyk, are an important form of continuous professional development of doctors of institutions, employees, and students of departments. The experience from such webinars with the involvement of employees of the basic institution will be taken as a basis for further development of vocational school programs by the departments of the University.
