Master Class on Atherosclerosis and Ischemic Heart Disease

On February 27, 2025, a master class on atherosclerosis and ischemic heart disease was held for cardiologists and doctors of related specialties. The organizers of this CPD (Continuous Professional Development) event were the Heart Institute and the P. Shupyk National Institute of Health Care of Ukraine. The event was opened with an introductory speech by the Director of the Heart Institute Prof. Borys Todurov.

The topics of the master class covered the most relevant aspects of the diagnosis and treatment of atherosclerosis, acute and chronic forms of coronary artery disease. In particular, the head of the Department of Endovascular Surgery and Angiography of the Heart Institute, Andriy Khokhlov, spoke about the possibilities of endovascular treatment of acute coronary syndromes. The head of the Department of Functional Diagnostics of the Shupyk National Institute of Health Care of Ukraine, Prof. Oleg Zharinov covered in detail the controversial aspects of the guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology on the management of patients with chronic coronary syndromes. Cardiologist of the Department of Cardiac Rhythm Disorders Ph.D. Yaroslav Skybczyk focused in his report on the ways of prevention and treatment of life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias in patients with coronary artery disease. Of particular interest was the report of the invited lecturer – Professor Vera Tseluyko (Karazin Kharkiv National University), in which the mechanisms of atherosclerotic lesions formation and the latest approaches to the correction of dyslipidemia were examined in detail. All reports included a discussion of clinical examples and typical scenarios that may occur in the practice of a cardiologist.

The audience received answers from each speaker to numerous questions. About 150 doctors successfully answered the test questions prepared by the speakers and will receive CPD certificates.
