For the first time in Ukraine, the team of the Heart Institute performed an intergroup heart transplant at the Institute when a patient with the 2nd blood group was transplanted an organ from a recipient with the 1st blood group.
41-year-old Lyudmila from the Kyiv region needed an urgent heart transplant to be able to return to her children, the youngest of whom is only a month old. She was in critical condition due to cardiomyopathy, which developed after giving birth. Her heart almost stopped, medical treatment stopped helping, and the woman’s life was supported by an Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation device.
The only chance for Mrs. Lyudmila to hug her children again was an urgent heart transplant, which took place on the night of August 7. Her husband Oleksandr was always by her side all these days, and her three sons were waiting for them at home under the care of their grandparents.
A little more than a month has passed since the heart transplant and we see a beautiful woman, wife, and mother of three children, smiling, walking, and enjoying life. We rejoice together with her and wish her a long and happy life!
Infinite gratitude to the donor’s family.
