June 5 is the International Day of Transplantology, and this day at the Heart Institute was honored with a successful heart transplant to a child.
Thanks to fruitful cooperation with our colleagues from Vinnytsia, the First Medical Association of Lviv, the Ukrainian Transplant Coordination Center, and staff of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the life of a 15-year-old boy who was in critical condition in the intensive care unit of the Heart Institute was saved.
In February this year, this boy fell ill with COVID-19 and no one could have thought that it would lead to such consequences and that the only salvation for 15-year-old Maxim would be a heart transplant. Maxim, his mother, and our doctors waited and believed that we would do it.
This transplant could have occurred a week ago, but another patient got a chance to be saved. But our specialists did not stop and knew they would do everything to give the boy his chance at life. And it happened. For the first time during the war, the heart was delivered by helicopter from Vinnytsia.
With gratitude and respect to the donors and their families. Life goes on!!!
