July 6, 2016 Kiev Society of Ophthalmologists, Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, Bogomolets National Medical University and the National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education named after P. Shupik held a joint meeting on the theme -”Hypertensive disease – the view of a cardiologist and ophthalmologist”, in which more than 150 doctors of various specialties took a part.

The purpose of the event was to discuss the modern approaches for the treatment of arterial hypertension and its complications from the side of the eye, modern use of anticoagulants and antiaggregants in ophthalmologic complications in patients with arterial hypertension and atherosclerosis.

The conference was opened by the General Director of the Heart Institute of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, corresponding member of the NAMS of Ukraine, professor Boris Todurov. The moderators of the meeting were the Chairman of the Kiev Society of Ophthalmologists, Head of the Department of Ophthalmology NMU named after A. Bogomolets, professor A. Vitovskaya and head of the Department of Ophthalmology NMAPE named after P. Shupik Professor S. Rykov.

Head of the Department of Functional Diagnostics NMAPE named after P. Shupik, Professor Oleg Zharinov reviewed the modern understanding of pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment, complications of arterial hypertension, the view of the cardiologist, the significance of the impression of the organ of vision as the target organ. The report by the ophthalmologist of the clinical and diagnostic department of the Heart Institute, N. Kovalchuk on the manifestations of hypertension from the retina caused a lively discussion on the part of ophthalmologists. Clinical cases of patients with eye damage due to hypertension and coronary heart disease were examined, photographs of the fundus and data of optical coherence tomography, reflecting complications in the postoperative period in patients with ischemic heart disease.

Assistant of the Department of Ophthalmology NMU named after A. Bogomolets S. Saksonov considered the use of modern nutraceuticals to treat age-related macular degeneration and innovative methods of treating this pathology, which were presented at the international ophthalmological forum. Associate Professor of the Department of Ophthalmology NMAPE named after P. Shupik I. Shargorodsky presented a lecture on rare forms of glaucoma, diagnostic features, differential diagnosis and treatment. During the meeting the current issues of the Kyiv Society of Ophthalmologists were also discussed.
