On April 18, 2019, the 5th Annual Registered Scientific and Practical Conference “Actual Problems of Cardiology and Cardiac Surgery” was held at the Heart Institute with the active participation of the departments of cardiac surgery, X-ray endovascular and extracorporeal technologies and functional diagnostics of the Shupik National Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education (NMAPE). The conference was attended by more than 130 cardiologists, physicians, cardiologists, reanimatologists, anesthetists, and doctors of functional diagnostics. The purpose of the forum was to present to doctors of different specialties the innovations in the field of cardiac surgery and interventional cardiology, implemented in practical activities at the Heart Institute.
The floor was welcomed by the Head of the Department of Cardiac Surgery, X-ray Endovascular and Extracorporeal Technologies of NMAPE, Professor Borys Todurov. The topics of the plenary session covered the latest aspects of the treatment of terminal heart failure using devices for mechanical blood circulation and neocuspidisation of aortic and pulmonary artery valves (Borys Todurov), transcatheter prosthetics of the aortic valve (MD Andriy Khokhlov, the Heart Institute) , wireless artificial heart rhythm drivers (Dr. Olexander Hrytsay, the Heart Institute), translocations of brachiocefalic vessels (Ph.D., associate professor Oleg Zelenchuk, NMAPE).

The symposium on “New features of cardiovascular prevention” attracted the attention of the audience, which was attended by members of the Academy. Professor of the Department of Family Medicine Viktoria Tkachenko reviewed modern approaches to cardiovascular prevention in patients with diabetes, while the Head of the functional diagnostics department, Professor Oleg Zharinov presented aspects of electrocardiographic diagnostics and management of patients with rare variants of ventricular tachycardia. Professor Valery Batushkin (Kyiv Medical University) reported on the features of background treatment of arterial hypertension in patients with atrial fibrillation from the point of view of international recommendations and personal experience.
