45 Ross Procedures at the Heart Institute in 2024

The Children’s Department of the Heart Institute has established a unique achievement – 45 Ross procedures in 2024. This is the largest number of such operations in the history of Ukrainian cardiac surgery!
To understand the scale of the achievement: even in Germany, all cardiac surgery centers together perform 200-230 such operations per year. And the clinics where 50 Ross operations are performed annually can be counted on the fingers.
Why is the Ross procedure so special? In this procedure, the affected aortic valve is replaced with the patient’s own pulmonary valve. This is living tissue that grows with the child and can serve for 40-50 years!

A huge advantage – the patient does not need to take anticoagulants for life. This means no risks of bleeding, strokes, and dietary restrictions. That is why the Ross procedure is the best choice for children and young patients.
