On Saturday, June 10, 2023, under the auspices of the Heart Institute e and the Shupyk National University of Health Care of Ukraine, an intramural professional school “Methods of screening and prevention of cardiovascular diseases” was held. It was attended by 27 cardiologists from all regions of Ukraine, who, on the eve of the school, directly got acquainted with the work of several departments of the Heart Institute and met with its Director, Professor Borys Todurov. The school was registered by the Testing Center at the Ministry of Health of Ukraine as a measure for the continuous professional development of doctors. The event was moderated by the head of the Department of Functional Diagnostics, Professor Oleg Zharinov.

The rich scientific program of the school included a consistent presentation of the latest aspects of screening as well as primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular diseases. In particular, the importance of ECG, ultrasound of blood vessels, and sleep apnea research as screening methods for cardiovascular pathology was highlighted. The priorities of correcting risk factors and ways to achieve blood pressure control were considered in separate lectures. Special attention of the audience was drawn to the reports on modern areas of prevention of heart failure and atrial fibrillation. In addition, approaches to the use of devices for the prevention of sudden cardiac death, as well as the prevention of coronary stent thrombosis, were outlined.

The implementation of the scientific program was made possible thanks to the efforts of department heads and leading specialists of the Heart Institute (Andrii Khokhlov, Oleksandr Hrytsai, Mykola Stan, Yaroslav Skybchyk, Olga Yepanchintseva, Olena Onyschenko, Iryna Shkurat), teachers of the Department of Functional Diagnostics of the Shupyk National Institute of Health of Ukraine (Prof. Oleg Zharinov, Viktor Kuts, Liliya Tkachenko), who prepared original reports and a program for testing trainees to obtain a certificate of Continuous Professional Development.

The listeners highly appreciated the new training format and the excellent organization of the event.
