Thanks to the rapid development of technology in recent decades, heart valve replacement has become a routine operation in the vast majority of cardiac surgery clinics in Ukraine, Europe and the whole world.
However, like any surgical procedure, even with perfect technique and technology, valve replacement is not without its drawbacks. One of the complications of all types of valve prosthetics is the appearance of paravalvular fistulas with the development of paravalvular insufficiency. With severe symptoms, surgical treatment is indicated, which may be associated with excessive risk or even impracticable in elderly or decompensated patients.
The development of transcatheter technologies has opened up new perspectives in the treatment of paravalvular fistulas. The use of new low-profile occlusive devices allows the closure of the paravalvular fistula with minimal risk, even in difficult clinical situations.
